Euro TV shambles: UEFA to blame for picking Grammy

In the long run it can only be a good thing if the TrueVisions monopoly is going to be broken up, but the exclusive deal by Uefa with GMMZ was not the right way to start it.

The customers were divided over whom to blame – True or Grammy. The ones who were really responsible for the mess were of course the Uefa top bosses. Uefa must regard it as their duty to ensure as wide an audience as possible worldwide. They must have known that Grammy had only a small customer base in Thailand and by insisting on strict adherence to Grammy’s exclusivity they ignored their duty. But why? One has to ask who benefited from the deal. I had to laugh when I read that that GMMZ executives flew to Europe for “negotiations” with Uefa, halfway through the tournament. What was there to negotiate? Maybe the choice of wine for the dinner with the Uefa executives before they flew home the next day?
The Uefa bosses have to answer a few questions, but it’s unlikely that we will hear any more from them. Maybe we should ask them when they turn up in Thailand for their next holiday, all expenses paid.
