Democratic ideals don't need to written

I have one question concerning Thailand's Constitution: Since our country has the King as head of state, why don't we copy the United Kingdom, which has the same kingship system?

There are two distinct characteristics in the British system: First, it has no written constitution. Second, it has the House of Lords – instead of the Senate that we have – whose members are selected, not elected by the people.
This system has been used for centuries, and is doing very well. Hence, I think the problem in our country is the people in the system – not exactly the system itself.
Democracy must be instilled in our minds and spirits, not written in beautiful words in the Constitution.
