Where good kids take their mums

Get in the tub at the Devarana Spa with your dear old mother

If your mum looks like she needs a little polishing up for Mother’s Day, you can take her to any of the five Devarana spas at Dusit Thani hotels around the country, anytime this month in fact. They’ll give you a vigorous rub too just for being so devoted.
The “Heavenly Nantha Garden Experience” entails sweet-scented tropical blossoms, a 30-minute Devarana Bath, a half-hour body scrub and a 90-minute Devarana Massage. The blissful aim is to relax and rejuvenate.
The trip to Heaven begins with a relaxing warm bath containing the oil and petals of jasmine, ylang ylang, pink lotus and champaca. The warmth and nourishing essential oils smooth and moisturise the skin and the fragrant cocktail of flowers calms the mood.
It’s so relaxing that you won’t even feel funny about sharing a bath with your mum.
Without rinsing, you stretch out for a full body scrub that begins with sea salt and more flower petals. The salt reduces wrinkles and leaves the skin looking younger. Salt also has great health benefits because it increases blood circulation at the skin surface, which aids its rejuvenation.
The scrubbing itself, done in a circular motion with sea salt, draws blood to the epidermis, drawing out toxins. And the petals – well, they just smell nice, while perhaps lessening the harshness of the salt.
You take a quick shower – no soap – and it’s time for a long 90 minutes of blissful massage. First you select your own scented oil.
There’s energising, uplifting Glee, with olive, argan and jojoba oil, suitable for any skin type. For shaking off stress, you might prefer Mellow with its classic, feminine scent of rose, camomile and lavender, ideal for dry, sensitive skin.
Cherish has the scent of nature that balances both feminine and masculine characteristics harmoniously. The green forest scent of sandalwood, macadamia and sweet almond helps nourish and relieve dry skin.
Cool, fresh Breeze calms and soothes with cypress, thyme, bergamot and neroli from the bitter orange tree. Jojoba and grapeseed base oils make it perfect for oily skin.
The Devarana Signature Massage is a treatment for those who want everything in one session, since it combines ancient Thai, ayurvedic and shiatsu techniques with those of Swedish massage and aromatherapy, accompanied by a steaming bowl of Thai herbs to clear the respiratory system.
The whole package costs Bt4,900 per person and is available until August 31.
Several other treatments for two are on the menu. Recommended is the Devarana Marine Gold Journey (Bt6,500 per person), which includes a 90-minute Signature Massage and a 90-minute Golden Thermo Caviar Facial.
The massage utilises an extract of glittering pure gold applied with oil all over the body. The gold is highly beneficial for its detoxifying, anti-oxidant, anti-ageing and brightening properties. The facial, with a caviar extract, antioxidant berry and sea buckthorn, replenishes the skin, softens lines and wrinkles and improves elasticity.
If the rainy season tends to get your mother down, treat her with the Umbrella Sanctuary Program, which promotes a healthy body and mind with gentle yoga stretching, a hot bath, a scrub with sea salt and tea and the Signature Massage. It’s a three-hour treatment and costs Bt5,900 per person.
