NASA: What about Chiang Rai airport?

In regard to NASA's request to undertake weather research in Thailand: We've heard that the current government, even though having over a year to consider the request, have not reached a decision.

Though U-Tapao is the site that would be used, it may not be the best site. Note to NASA: consider Chiang Rai.
Chiang Rai has two airports, one of which is not being used, yet has a 1km long runway in good condition. It is overseen by the Royal Thai Air Force. Arguably, Chiang Rai has advantages in weather and living/cost conditions over U-Tapao.
In the bigger picture, Thailand would benefit from hosting a Nasa facility. Just one of many reasons: Thailand’s youth might gain exposure to, and develop added appreciation for real science – as opposed to the manifold layers of superstition they’re steeped in.
