I wonder whether Mr Frederickson’s enthusiasm for language reform extends to English. The Thai writing system retains some of the more radical reforms of Marshal Phibun, so in that respect it’s had a more recent update than English.
The vagaries of English spelling are widely known, yet all attempts at reform have come to nothing since the days of Daniel Webster.
A far better project would be to regularise English spelling, since it’s a world language, to make it easier for its millions of learners.
