Foreigners beware opportunist cops

On Tuesday afternoon I was sitting in a taxi waiting for the light to change at the Asoke intersection.

Two policemen on a motorbike drove up to the taxi, opened the passenger door and demanded I answer their questions. Fearing a scam, I clutched my possessions close to my chest. The police then closed the door and left. While I can only speculate as to their motives (and recent stories abound of police allegedly planting drugs on foreigners riding in Bangkok taxis), foreign tourists and expatriates are well advised to lock all taxi doors for the foreseeable future.
