They think we are idiots

A Thai friend of mine was just denied a visa to visit the US.

She wants to spend 10 days seeing some of the national parks there and visiting friends. She’s a 40-year-old nurse and a single mum and comes from a well-to-do family. The sick irony of her being denied a visa is evident when contrasted to a visa recently given to a man who is running from the law. In stark contrast to its written laws, the US granted a visa to a man who is not only a fugitive and a compulsive liar, but is also implicated in funding and inciting riots in 2009 and 2010 – which resulted in many deaths and much property damage. As if that weren’t enough, the official American response to protests (about the visa) is that “it was not a political decision”. It appears the US Embassy and the Pheu Thai Party both consider the general public to be gullible idiots. What’s next? Perhaps they’ll try to convince us that water is not wet and birds don’t fly.
