Amazed by reaction to politician who admitted the truth

I'm amazed by all this reaction to a Thai politician admitting that he lies.

That may be the most honest thing a politician has ever said.
I remember in 1984 Democratic Presidential nominee Walter Mondale was probably the only candidate in American history honest enough to admit that if he got elected president he would raise taxes. How did America react to such honesty? Mondale lost 49 out of 50 states in the election!
Four years later George Bush (the father) said at the Republican convention: “Read my lips. No new taxes”. He got elected and then raised taxes anyway. Honesty doesn’t work.
On a more personal level a friend of mine who was very successful in business said to me that while being honest might get you to heaven, if you want more immediate gratification you have to learn to lie. And another friend of mine who was popular with women told me that if he wasn’t a liar he’d probably still be a virgin!
On the other hand, I’ve always been honest with women which is why I usually went home from single parties by myself! What really upsets me is that since I’m probably going to go to hell anyway, I missed out on all that fun for nothing!
