And that’s what happened when Saksit “Tor” Vejsupaporn met seven-year-old Siriwan “Saairung” Wongtanasiri-kul, the new Brand’s junior ambassador, while shooting a commercial for the bird’s net drink company.
“I was so impressed! When you’re talking to her, you don’t feel like you’re talking to a little girl,” says the singing keyboard whiz.
Tor comes to this realisation a little late. Brand’s and most of the population know Saairung from YouTube, where she teaches Chinese in a video series called “Pa Sa Chin Wan La Kum” (“Daily Chinese Vocabulary”). In fact, she’s been doing this since she was three.
Call her a genius or hail the wonders of home schooling. Saairung has never attended an actual school and here she is teaching Chinese words to other kids.
“She’s got good sense and has a teacher’s ability, and I think she’s special,” says Tor, who picked up some Chinese from his young co-star while filming the commercial.
Saairung happens to be a fan of Tor anyway, so she looks up to him too. “I want to be as good as Phi Tor,” she says. “He’s so good at studying and playing piano.”
She’s no slouch at the ivories either, though. And she can draw quite well too. “I really love drawing! I could grab blank paper and draw all day long, every day,” Saairung said.
Her dream is to be an artist when she grows up, as a matter of fact, and she has a good motivation for that: She hopes her drawings will provoke smiles and thus make people happy.
Teaching Chinese, playing piano, a flair for art, a readiness to help society – we’re coming down with Underachiever Flu here, so let’s hope Saairung has nothing else up her sleeve.
What’s that? She’s interested in science too? Yes, she wants to invent a tool or machine to improve life. “I hope she’ll be a great inspiration for all children,” Tor says. Adults too, probably.
