I assume that Pravit didn’t read my letter of October 22 (“Vegan responds”) or Mr Nuntanit’s letter of October 23 (“Just who is it that lacks feeling here?”) or he wouldn’t have made such a fool of himself by claiming plants deserve the same consideration as animals.
I’d like to ask him two questions.
First, what evidence does he have that plants have the brain and centralised nervous system necessary in order to feel pain?
Second, since, in America, 80 per cent of the corn and 95 per cent of oats grown are fed to farm animals, how does it benefit plants to support animal farm industries, which are the No 1 destroyer of plants?
In a related matter, although I realise that debating Victor Meldrew is like arguing with the Flat Earth Society (at least the Flat Earth Society doesn’t promote animal abuse), I hope the readers follow Meldrew’s advice and Google “Dean Ornish vegetarian diet”. They will then see that, as usual, Meldrew doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about.
