On reading Songdej Praditsmanont’s letter lavishly praising the latest Cabinet reshuffle, I began to wonder if Songdej is starting to take the soap opera of Thai politics too seriously.
Does he really believe that, despite earlier promises, Thaksin Shinawatra wanted his sister Yingluck to take the risk of having such a loose cannon as Jatuporn Promphan in her Cabinet or that he genuinely tried to have her cut loose the ministers of finance and commerce, simply to appease some petty jealousies they may have been aroused among his crusty old guard?
This prime-time soap has a master screenwriter who knows well how to tug at the heartstrings of viewers and thrill them with surprise twists and turns.
In order to keep a level head while watching it, it is necessary to try to think at least two chess moves ahead of the screenplay or, better still, just switch off the set.
