There's gold in that vodka

A Thai photographer scans Russia's opulence capitals for Smirnoff

Kick off the festive season this year with Smirnoff’s “Golden Empire” project that allows you to feast your eyes of the enigmatic golden land of Russia and please your palate with Asia’s first Smirnoff Gold Limited Edition.

The Thailand-exclusive photography project will showcase the works of aspiring young photographer Kanachai ‘Kit’ Benjarongkul, who spent a few days in Moscow and St Petersburg snapping all things glittering and gold to capture the rich, opulent Russian landscape and commemorate the birthplace of Smirnoff.
“Normally I do fashion shoots where everything is set up and controlled, so this time was very different and challenging,” Kit told us of his first visit to Russia, and his first architectural photography works.
“Russia is very rich and interesting. I find Moscow very rustic and tranquil, while St Petersburg is more lively and elegant, but both have unique charms in their own ways. This photo shoot was very challenging because of the scale of the places and there are many interesting sides to them, which I have to pick the best angle to show. I took hundreds of pictures!”
It’s not just the golden domes and cathedrals that Kit zoomed in on. The forest, the street at night, the walls and even petty details in the two cities are given a touch of gold. Some selected best shots will be displayed at Smith on Sukhumvit soi 49 on Wednesday, while the rest can be viewed on Smirnoff Thailand’s Facebook page.
The night will also reveal Asia’s first launch of Smirnoff Gold Limited Edition. A truly luxurious vodka, Smirnoff Gold has 23 carat gold infused in every drop. The limited edition Smirnoff Gold is being introduced exclusively for the festive season and makes for an absolutely unique gift.
Inspired by the opulence of the Russian tsars and their passion for gold, this smooth concoction treats your palette to an indulgent feeling of honey and silk, while the gold leaves elegantly suspended in the liquid add that special sparkle to the festive vibes. Triple-distilled and ten times charcoal filtered, it is flavoured with a hint of cinnamon.
For this festive celebration, make your guests a glass of Golden Delicious with Smirnoff Gold, apple liqueur and maple syrup. Stir all ingredients with ice. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with an apple slice.
The Smirnoff brand began with a vodka distillery founded in Moscow by Pyotr Arsenievich Smirnov, son of illiterate Russian peasants. It is now owned by British company Diageo and distributed in 130 countries. It is produced in several countries including the US, Italy, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland. In 2006, Diageo North America claimed that Smirnoff vodka was the best-selling distilled spirit brand in the world.
