Fashion and fine dining merged in style at Elements restaurant earlier this month when Okura Prestige Bangkok’s Chef de Cuisine Cyril Cocconi teamed up with fashion designer Klar Lov to present the “Food is Art” gourmet night. It was a dynamic dining experience with a black and white theme that combined the very best of Thai couture fashion with the finest international haute cuisine.
Chef Cocconi, who is notable for his imaginative cuisine, beautifully and flavourfully transformed familiar ingredients into an array of innovative, artful meal – in black and white. The juicy scallop was made into a carpaccio with black dots that turned out to be caviar.
A simple daikon was made into creamy soup with a tantalising bitter aftertaste, with crispy chips of daikon on the side. Instead of filleting his fish, the chef turned it into a Japanese-style delicacy with a touch of luxurious avruga caviar on top.
The main event of the night was French imported chicken slow cooked in sous vide till juicy and tender, served with crunchy black trumpet mushrooms. The last wow factor of the evening was a dessert plate with white chocolate infused subtly with touches of black chocolate and coconut.
The guests also got to feast their eyes on two couture fashion sets in black and white by emerging designer Klar Lov.
“Our ‘Food is Art’ presentation was a wonderful example of two artists working in harmony to create a memorable dining experience. I know that our dinner guests will enjoy the opportunity of witnessing two great artists working in harmony,” said Okura Prestige General Manager Samir Wildemann. “We hope very much to make this a regular event in 2013.”
