No reason for the government to gloat

One reason the government was able to put an early stop to the rally initiated by the Pitak Siam group last week was because the police were effective in preventing a much larger group of disgruntled people joining the rally.

However, it would be a big mistake for the government to be so confident as to try to push for a new law and a rewrite of the Constitution to allow Thaksin Shinawatra to escape a jail term, and stop all court proceedings against him for alleged crimes of the past.
The government should realise the fact that Thaksin-haters are not only still around but are very large in number both in and outside the country. They are of the mindset that Thaksin personifies cronyism, corruption and false democracy.
Hence, any endeavour by the government henceforth should be expressly for the good of the Thai people and their posterity – not for one man as against the good of everybody else.
Think carefully before you leap into the fire.
