Sony MDR-XB900 is a new pair of extra-bass headphones that will definitely please you if you love the full thunder and top sound clarity.
The XB900 features a sleek, multiple-folding design, but it really reproduces sheer bass power thanks to Sony’s Advanced Direct Vibe Structure and powerful 50mm driver units.
The Advanced Direct Vibe Structure forms an acoustically tight seal around your ears, maximising sound isolation to directly deliver pure bass power to your ears.
An optimised diaphragm in the headphones’ front chamber also gives you more expansive, clear mid-range sounds.
The XB900 is comfortable to wear because of the elasticised leather covered urethane ear pads. The seamless ear-contact areas and superior sound isolation also contribute to the comfort and good sound quality of the headphones. Moreover its pressure-relieving soft head cushions enhance listening comfort. These comfortable factors apparently allowed me to enjoy my music for hours during the test.
The XB900 is convenient to carry around because of its smart multiple folding design, allowing it to be folded and stuffed in a bag. And its cord has tiny grooves along its surface to reduce tangling and mess.
The XB900 is capable of handling power of 3,000 mW and its has 24 ohm (@1kHz) impedance. It has good frequency response of 3 Hz to 28,000 Hz.
The headphones come with 1.2-metre cord and it uses gold-plated L-shaped stereo mini plug.
I tested the XB900 together with Sony PHA-1 headphone amplifier and I was impressed with the sound quality of the headphones.
I enjoyed listening to rock albums with the headphones. The bass was very powerful and the guitars and other musical instruments as well as vocals were also clear.
For example, when I listened to AC/DC’s “Black Ice” album, I enjoyed the powerful bass rhythms in contrast with guitars, drums and the powerful vocal sounds. I could hear the onslaught of the powerful bass guitar speeding to my ears from the “War Machine” song, which was very enjoyable.
If you love rock songs with powerful bass, you should love the XB900 headphones, which retail for Bt5,990.
