Three new HD sports channels this month
TrueVisions, hoping to hold on to viewers after it loses the broadcast rights to English Premier League football in May, has promised to deliver top sports content to subscribers under the concept "Visions Ahead".
Yesterday the pay-TV operator announced the launch of three new sports channels to be broadcast in high definition, saying it wants to reaffirm its status as the best in sports broadcasting in Thailand.
The three channels – NBA TV, MotorVision and Outdoor Channel – will join TrueVisions’ existing 21 sports channels and begin broadcasting on April 19.
“We are always introducing new channels and this time we are offering additional sports channels to make sure our viewers don’t miss out on exciting games,” said Anat Mekpaiboonvatana, managing director of TrueVisions.
NBA TV HD channel offers basketball fans NBA matches 24 hours a day, from play-off matches and the NBA Finals, to reruns and classic NBA clashes during the week.
MotorVision HD is aimed at fans of motoring and motorsports. Originally from Germany, the channel features highlights of motorsports such as V8 Supercars, Nascar and Superbike, and other motoring-themed shows such as reviews, modification techniques, stories of famous motorists, motor shows from around the world and the latest technology.
Outdoor Channel is for adventurous souls who like exciting outdoor activities such as shooting, fishing, hunting and off-road driving. It has techniques from experts in each field.
Attaphon Na Bangxang, TrueVisions vice president for programming, added that from April 19, 17 new channels in HD and standard definition will be added to take the total number of TrueVisions’ channels to 144, with the number in HD being increased from 17 to 23.
The six new high definition channels will be Motor Vision, Outdoor Channel, NBA TV, HBO Signature, HBO Hit and H2, with the latter available from June 14 onwards.
The 11 standard definition channels are Channel L, Activ TV, Block A, Sky Theater, Channel6, h+, Sun Channel, SME Channel, Li, Disney Junior and Disney Thailand. Li will be available from April 1 onwards, while Block A, Activ TV, Sun Channel, Sky Theater, H+, SME Channel and Disney Junior begin broadcasting on May 1, Disney Thailand in July and Channel L on August 1.
Seven standard definition channels will be upgraded to HD, namely HBO HD, Fox Movies Premium HD, Fox Family Movies HD, History Channel HD, National Geographic HD, AXN HD and Golf Channel Thailand. Golf Channel Thailand will be upgraded from May 13.
On April 18, TrueVisions will add new standard definition channels and HD channels, which requires temporary suspension of broadcast – on April 19, from 1 am to 8am – while equipment and software are upgraded.
