With his trend-setting vision, Marc Jacobs predicts precisely what women want every season. He’s filled his spring-summer 2013 collection with ’60s-inspired clean, modern silhouettes accented with Op Art stripes.
Club21, sole distributor of the brand in Thailand, showed the new collection last week at its boutique at Siam Paragon. In attendance were Ananda Everingham, Ken Phupoom, Khemanij Jamikorn, Janesuda Parnto, Pitchanart Sakakorn, Paula Taylor and Yardthip Rajpal.
The runway looks included a maxi dress with black and white stripes constructed from delicately pieced-together panels on a “scuba jersey” that resembled the top of a wetsuit.
The intentionally unfinished hem makes alterations easy. The simple or striped twill skirt has a matching jacket and – the unexpected star of the show – a demure, below-the-knee skirt. Cut from crisp twill, this flattering outfit lent a touch of femininity to the season’s monochrome palette. Elsewhere, a simple black sweater balanced the bold patterns. The stripe also makes its way to Jacobs’ bags and accessories.
Marc Jacobs’ Antonia has become a favourite line. It boosts everyday looks with a hit of rich colour courtesy of a Marc Jacobs bag. This leather carryall has enough space to hold your iPad, wallet and a small cosmetics case.
The leather is much softer and lighter than in previous collections, drawing the admiration of Madonna, Eva Mendes, Jessica Alba, Dakota Fenning and Selma Blair. It’s also nice to tote it by the top handles to the office, switching to the detachable shoulder strap when off duty.
Another must have model is the Multi-Stitching Barogue, with many colours to choose from, like ivory, citrus and navy. The leather shoulder bag will certainly brighten up your daytime style.
The bags all have a chain strap, quilted goat leather, one interior zippered pocket, and distinctive hammered-gold hardware.
The overall shoulder bag simply makes the clothing collection pop against a monochrome look of the season.
