Located in the heart of the Thai capital’s business district in a luxury high rise, Conrad Bangkok may first appear to be more for executive deals than plush pampering. Yet when it comes to relaxing, there are few places better than Seasons Spa, an urban oasis that offers an extensive array of spa experiences in a stress-free and welcoming environment.
Wood is the highlight in all 11 elegant rooms, which boast minimum frills and maximum comfort. Seasons is very spacious and warm and despite being in the centre of the urban jungle, offers soothing views of the Conrad’s lush green garden.
There are various types of treatment room, ranging from the Presidential Spa Suite with Jacuzzi and private steam room to double treatment rooms with bathtub and en suite changing room and washroom.
And not only is it comfortable, but Seasons Spa also offers treatments designed to meet your every need. The most recommended, if you have time to pamper yourself, are those in the signature collection. Worth checking out is the 120-minute Aroma Thai package (Bt4,900), which combines body scrub, steam, body massage and head massage.
The treatment starts with a fine-fibre, all-natural herb scrub that lasts 30 minutes. And because there is no salt in the mix, there isn’t that mild burning feeling as the therapist massages you with the mixture. Next you head to your private bathroom to rinse of the scrub. Even a bottom-of-the-range single treatment comes with en suite washroom and toilet. Don’t underestimate the comfort of having your own facilities. All too many urban spas put the emphasis on a themed decor, a swanky reception area and weirdly named signature treatments, forgetting that to most customers, simple comfort and practicality are still the most important features. Who wants to leave their clothes five rooms away and stumble back covered in oil to get dressed? Here, you just hop out of bed and into the shower then to the steam room without leaving the room.
While most treatments usually put the body massage high on the agenda, Aroma Thai lets you relax and loosen your tight muscles with a 15 minute-steam. During this steamy 15 minutes, you are encouraged to sip water from time to time to stay hydrated.
You’ll discover that the steam really works when the therapist starts her 60-minute full body massage. Because your muscles are already disentangled, the therapist does not need to knead you with too much force, making the massage relaxing and reenergising and not in the least painful. Using long strokes, palm pressing and acupressure, the massage leaves you totally relaxed and refreshed.
And if like me, you always end up opting for the lavender massage oil because none of the others suit your sense of smell, you’ll be pleased to discover more than a dozen massage oils on the menu, so it’s very likely you’ll find one that you like. Generally the spa manage will suggest the oil to match your treatment, but you can have a whiff and decide for yourself, too.
The body massage is followed by 15 minutes of head and scalp massage – just to cap off 120 minutes of pure relaxation.
All the products used are made by the UK brand Aromatherapy Associates. Every product is expertly blended using only the purest ingredients to target and treat everyday stress-related symptoms. There’s available to take home too.
