Ariya fails to join sister among trio of Thais in Texas Shootout

Ariya Jutanugarn failed to join sister Moriya in the LPGA North Texas LPGA Shootout after losing out by just one stroke in the qualifying competition in Irving, Texas on Monday.

Fresh from an impressive third place at last week’s LPGA Lotte Championship in Hawaii, where she fired a total 15-under par to finish four off the lead, the 17-year-old Thai shot an even-par 71 at the Las Corinas Country Club.
Sophia Sheridan and Amelia Lewis shot 70s to earn the two spots in the US$1.3-million Shootout, which starts tomorrow.
“I didn’t putt well and the course was a bitter tougher than last week. I would have done better if I had had more time practising here,” said Ariya who caught a flight from Hawaii on Sunday after she completed the Lotte event. Ariya’s near miss in qualifying means that Moriya, Pornanong Phatlum and Thidapa Suwannapura will be the only Thais strutting their stuff among 140 of the world’s best players in the LPGA event. The tournament will be broadcast on the Golf Channel.
Ariya has, however, been awarded a wild card into next week’s US$1.3-million Kingsmill Championship at the par-71 6,379-yard Kingsmill Resort River Course in Williamsburg, Virginia.
