Prepare yourself for a serious bass-overload weekend with two massive parties from Phatfunk and Dubway.
Tonight, monthly homegrown drum and bass gathering Phatfunk has moved from the second to first Friday of every month and is starting the new time slot with a party at Glow on Sukhumvit Soi 23. Fans can expect the unexpected and buckets of cool drum and bass sounds by Phatfunk DJs.
One of the crew is the rising DeLorean, who has been pushing drum and bass since his early teens. Starting off at house parties in the UK, he moved on quickly to set up a successful monthly night in his hometown. Those nights saw the likes of LTJ Bukem & Conrad, Logistics, Nu Tone, London Elektricity, Danny Byrd, Commix and many more pitch up at the decks.
Now laying roots in Bangkok, DeLorean’s first port of call is his new show on UB, bringing you a wide selection of D&B with fresh beats cut with old time classics.
Another local star, DJ Orawan, found her love for drum and bass after a trip to the full-moon party on Koh Pangan in 2000.
It was the love of the low frequency bass that drew her to this underground sound. But it wasn’t until she moved to Auckland, New Zealand, two years later and bought her first record that it pretty much took her over completely.
As well as organising the very popular Kinetic night in Auckland, Orawan has played at all the main drum and bass parties in New Zealand, and supported legends such as LTJ Bukem, Futurebound and Big Bud.
Moving back to her motherland in 2010, Orawan performed at the Honda Music Festival and the southern full moon party and has rocked parties with Siam Spin, Jiving Tribe, Dubway, Yaak and Low Frequency D&B – the original Siamese Selectors crews.
Founder of Phatfunk DJ Azek is manning the deck, too. Hailing from the south of France, Jeremy Guessoum moved to Thailand in 2005, where he started playing for local drum and bass movements Jazzbah Records and Yaak Party and UB Radio.
Influenced by the jazzy and soulful sounds of labels like Bingo, V Records or Soul:r and the hip-hop scene, Azek’s sets are fresh and funky. He has previously performed with the likes of Futurebound, Sabre, Mischief, Outrage as well as many other local and regional drum and bass stars.
For this edition of Phatfunk, the crew goes beyond true and tried drum and bass sound with the addition of live saxophone by Saxky from Taladplu Coolplay fame. Don’t miss a night of energetic bass lines and electrifying sax sessions.

Enjoy a weekend-proper, back-to-back drum and bass marathon tomorrow night with the latest Dubway Session at Grease on Sukhumvit Soi 49. Apart from Bangkok’s favourites such as DJs Dragon, DeepSpace, Orawan and MC Sinnamon, you’ll be treated to guest DJ Snareophobe from the UK.
Since 2009 Snareophobe has built a reputation as an act that never fails to blow away the crowd with high-energy sets. Taking influences from jungle, hip-hop, garage, breakbeat, dubstep and drum and bass, mixing up heavyweight bass lines, samples, loops, FX and mashing up tracks over four channels, remixing on the fly. His Performances are laced with dance floor killers including unreleased remixes and pipeline collaborative projects with some of the biggest names in the bass music community.
Snareophobe smashed 2011 to pieces with a string of shows and festivals throughout Asia, Europe and the UK. And 2012 was packed full with relentless touring through Europe and 40 shows in Canada, the US and Australia with Dub Fx and the Flower Fairy.
He is currently working in Melbourne on the forthcoming Dub Fx album before returning to the UK and Europe for summer festivals and tour dates.
