Buying a mattress can be a headache. You want something firm but not hard, with springs that support, and within a price range you can afford. But how do you go about choosing what’s right for you?

“You need at least 15 minutes to try out a mattress and the pillow to make sure they suit your needs,” says Nophol Techaphangam of Springmate, a leading local manufacturer of mattress and bedding products. 

That’s all very well but how many of us are going to lie down in a shop 

 or department store while other customers stare and giggle?

Or, if you still hate the idea, the store allows you to try one of two mattress models over a week in your home environment for a deposit of just Bt3,000. If you don’t get a great night’s sleep, you can return it. The deposit is non-refundable though you can spend its value on other accessories.

Springmate offers mattresses with different materials ranging from spring, foam to natural latex and memory foam with a guarantee of seven to 15 years. The mattresses come in different types for specific requirements and budgets and are designed for home use as well as for hotels, resorts and hospitals. 

The double offset spring mattress has long been the most popular 

 thanks to the friendly prices and ability to retain its shape. The pocket spring has individually encased springs to conform to each person’s contours, keeping you and your partner undisturbed by the each other’s movements even on a restless night. The natural latex mattress is firm yet flexible and the new advanced technology called flexi coir provides extra softness for maximum comfort. Prices range from Bt4,900 to Bt45,900 for a three-foot single , and from Bt8,900 to Bt79,900 for the six-foot king.

“We also have combination mattresses with a combination of core and 

 foam to give different densities and feelings. A customised service to produce a mattress to personal contour and preference is provided. When a husband loves a firm mattress while his wife prefers a soft texture, we can make one mattress with two different sleeping surfaces to suit their specific needs,” says Nophol.

The store stocks a variety of pillows filled polyester, natural latex, duck and goose feathers together with the S-position pillow that support the whole body. Other bedding products include duvets, sheets, mattress protectors, bathrobes, towels and slippers. Foldable teak baby cots, bunk beds, sofa beds and sun loungers are made to order. 

“Our premium bedding set is made from Tencel fibre or bamboo-based cellulose that gives it a smooth, soft surface and makes it breathable, lightweight and comfortable,” he adds.

 Springmate also boasts a range of accessories for the home. The sole distributor in Thailand for Robbe & Berking, a luxurious state-of-the-art brand of silverware from Germany, it stocks a collection of silver and silver-plated cutlery sets. Family crests can be engraved on the silver pieces. An availability guarantee is provided in case a piece goes missing from a large set of highly valued cutlery. Spares can be even ordered 50 years after the date of purchase.
