Sticks and stones may break my bones

Re: "Govt threatens action against masked FB users", Politics, May 27.

“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” – English Idiom
Another knee-jerk reaction by The Knowledge’s Big Thinking party. What better recruiting tool could the Guy Fawkes group receive than to be widely advertised and to show the government’s disregard for the freedom of speech?
This is the leadership that condoned armed insurrection in Bangkok, that supported the creation of red-shirt villages, and that condoned physical attacks on the previous Democrat-led government. This is the leadership that wants to eradicate independent agencies controlling the checks and balances of a democracy. It thinks it is reasonable to suppress the heartfelt opinion of those whose views run contrary to the government’s stance.
Perhaps William Blake has the answer: “A truth that’s told with bad intent / beats all the lies you can invent.”
The article says that, as long as the images “are not false, contrary to others interests or slandered others”, they are lawful. Every view could be seen as contrary to others’ interests. Government policies fit this bill. Pheu Thai is a party run by a convicted “slave” (his word, not mine), the “clone” (his word, not mine) of the same and a self-declared “servant” (his word, not mine) of the same. Who would be so cruel as to slander such humble people?
