Andrew Sheng wrote, “By around 2020 the US is projected to become the largest global oil producer ... the US will become a net oil exporter by 2030.”
Mr Sheng in Hong Kong is president of the Fung Global Institute, but he might not realise how Americans really think (or not think), and how addiction to credit and debt has so permeated the US mentality that any projected future wealth becomes yet another reason to spend on credit and to sink further into debt.
It will not take long for members of the US Congress to cite Mr Sheng’s article and others like it to justify more outrageous federal spending, and immoral propagandists will undoubtedly use such conclusions to encourage US consumers to return quickly to heavy reliance upon credit and debt.
Give Americans an inch of hope and they will take a mile of credit based upon that hope.
Does that sound familiar to any Thais?
