This weekend the Bangkok party people are treated to two big parties, thankfully not the same night, so no big decision necessary. House fans will certainly be heading to Q Bar tonight to see Ministry of Sound resident DJ Igor Project, while drum-and-bass junkies will prefer Tokyo’s most promising spinner, Ena, at Grease tomorrow.
Hey, you can go to both!
If you only have ears for house, Q Bar on tonight offers one of the most prolific DJs in the UK house scene. It takes a certain set of skills to become a Ministry of Sound resident DJ and Igor Project has been recognised globally for his technical abilities and selection prowess, winning, most notably, the 2011 Mixmag & Ministry of Sound DJ competition.
Originally from Lisbon but now based in the UK, Igor is no stranger to the rigors of life as a highly sought-after DJ. Propelled by an ever-expanding catalogue of tracks, Igor’s musical aptitude creates incredible, room-shaking sounds.
As a DJ and producer, Igor’s versatility and creativity shine. Combined with his mesmerising personality, he’s a dance club magnet.
Admission with one drink is Bt600. Be there early to get a free CD and other goodies from the Ministry of Sound. More details at (02) 252 3274 and www.QBarBangkok.com.
This British twist to American house music comes courtesy of the Ministry of Sound, one of the world’s most famous dance clubs. Inspired by New York’s Paradise Garage, the Ministry was the brainchild of DJ Justin Berkmann, who wanted London to have its own club devoted to American house from New York, Chicago and Detroit.
Since 2008, Fridays have been hosted by the Gallery, with sets from leading hard house and trance DJs. The Ministry’s long-standing Saturday Sessions have house, electro and techno sets from DJs including Tiesto, Sasha, Erick Morillo, Pete Tong and David Guetta.
At Grease tomorrow, there’s producer and DJ Ena (real name Yu Asaeda), a major player in the Japanese underground dubstep and drum-and-bass scenes for more than a decade. Taking influences from early D&B productions, rave sounds and abstract hip-hop by the likes of Photek, Krush, Source Direct and Renegade Hardware, Ena developed his distinctive sounds and unique technical ability.
He’s released numerous tracks on 7even Recordings, CX:Digital, HE:Digital, Hymen, Horizons Music and other labels. His forward-thinking and uncompromising style pushed his profile on the international scene, notably being asked in June 2012 by Resident Advisor to contribute for their acclaimed RA pod cast series.
His act in Bangkok will be supported by local stars including DJs Sabre, Dragon and MC Sinnamon.
Entry with a drink is Bt350. Call the club at (02) 662 6120 or check out www.Facebook.com/DubwayBKK.
