Burmese President Thein Sein is quoted as saying, “Buddhist monks ... keep the 277 precepts or moral rules.”
Is this a typo, or do Burmese monks follow 50 rules more than Thai monks? According to the Buddhist Monastic Code, published by the Mahamakuta Educational Council in 1993, there are only 227 rules in the Patimokkha Code.
