According to Wimbledon, this is his worst defeat at a Grand Slam (or any event) since his loss in the first round at 2002 Wimbledon.
The Swiss tennis player looked visibly disappointed. In the fourth set, as a sign of frustration, he hit the ball directly at his opponent. It slightly missed Stakhovsky.
But thanks to the excellent play throughout the match, as he walked out of the court, the crowd stood up and gave him a bia applause.
In his interview after the match, Federer said "It's always a disappointment losing any match around the world and particularly here."
Yet, Federer is ready to make a comback.
"Looking forward to next year, that I can do better here next year. I still have plans to play for many more years to come."
On Stakhovsky, he said "He was uncomfortable to play against. He served and volleyed really well. I think he did really well. I struggled on big points. It was tricky. Credit to him for closing it out under pressure. He was better on the big points than I was today."
Stakhovsky was overwhelmed by the victory. "I can't really tell now. I'm still in disbelief that happened. When you play Federer, at Wimbledon, like you play 2 people."
This is first time that neither Federer or Spain's Rafael Nadal has made the third round of a Grand Slam they both played in.
Nadal withdrew on injuries.
Last night, tennis fans punched in a number of Tweets, expressing their surprises and disappoinment.
Earlier on the day, Maria Sharapova also suffered from her worst Grand Slam performance since AustralianOpen 2010 when she went out first round.
