Rooney, Van Persie to make Bangkok trip

Dutch hitman Robin Van Persie, the Premier League's top scorer last season, and strike partner Wayne Rooney have been included in Manchester United's travelling party for an exhibition match in Bangkok next Saturday.

The Man United fixture on July 13 at Rajamangala National stadium is one of two high-profile matches to mark the 80th anniversary of Boon Rawd Brewery. Europa League winners Chelsea, the other English club with which the company has a sponsorship deal, are due to play in the capital four days later.
Absent from the Bangkok flight list of familiar names released by the Manchester club are Mexican striker Javier Hernandez and Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa. The pair have just completed international duties at the Confederations Cup in Brazil.
England international Rooney has been rostered for the trip despite uncertainty over his future at the club, after he asked for a transfer at the end of last term. There is also a place on the plane for Rooney’s compatriot Wilfried Zaha, the last signing made by Sir Alex Ferguson, before the Scot retired in May after leading his club to its 20th top-flight title.
The match against a Singha All Stars team will be former Everton manager David Moyes’ first game in charge since taking over the Old Trafford hot seat. The Moyes-led United side will touch down in Bangkok on Thursday. They are due to conduct an open training session on the eve of the match.
