Ariya has been sidelined since suffering a slight dislocation of her right shoulder when she slipped on a slope during a practice round for the Wegmans LPGA Championship in New York last month.
Bangkok Hospital sources said they would reveal details of the 17-year-old’s operation tomorrow. No timescale for the golfer’s rehabilitation and recovery was disclosed, but indications are that she will not be fit for the Women’s British Open due on August 1, after missing the first three Grand Slams this year.
The injury came at a bad time for the rising Thai star, who had built momentum with splendid results as an invitee on the LPGA circuit, which she is too young to join as a full member.
She finished second in the Honda LPGA Thailand in February, then went on to post another top-five finish the following week at the HSBC Women’s Champions in Singapore. Her first career win came a few weeks later on the European Ladies in the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco.
Ariya’s sister Moriya, meanwhile is still in the US, preparing for the $1.3-million Marathon Classic starting tomorrow on the par 72, 6,428-yard Highland Meadows Golf Club in Ohio.
