CLARINS IS THIS year capping almost three and a half decades of innovative anti-ageing products by reconnecting the missing links to lasting firmness with Extra-Firming Day and Night Creams.
Central Trading, Clarins’ distributor in Thailand, recently hosted a party to introduce the products and demonstrate the technique for applying them effectively. The new products go on sale next month at Clarins counters in the malls and department stores.
Usara Yongpiyakul, vice president of Central Trading, said the skincare market has grown significantly in recent years because women are more concerned than ever about their appearance and always looking for something new and effective when it comes to slowing the ageing process.
Thailand has a Bt13-billion beauty market, not counting direct sales and sales at the supermarkets. Half of the sales are in skincare products, nearly a third in makeup and the rest in perfumes. This year the skincare market is expected to grow by 8 per cent, Usara said. Clarins is counting on its latest anti-ageing products to account for 15 per cent of total sales this year.
More teens nowadays are using makeup, she said, but they’re less interested in products that protect the skin.
Sarah Liew of Clarins Asia unveiled the new creams. Researchers found the “missing links” to firmness in two elements of the skin structure, she said. One of them reconnects fibroblast cells and collagen fibres, another the collagen fibres and elastic fibres. With the new creams, she promised, the skin will appear firmer and bouncier in just four weeks, with wrinkles clearly reduced.
“We’re the first brand to talk about the missing links to deal with loss of firmness and the appreciation of wrinkles,” Liew said.
The Extra-Firming Day Cream contains extracts of green banana and lemon thyme, which have complementary properties that reinforce the links between collagen fibres, elastics fibres and cells. They stymie face sagging and loss of elasticity due to ageing.
The banana extract reinforces the link between fibroblast and collagen fibre. Specially developed for Clarins, it encourages the synthesis of the most common collagen, enhanced by bocoa extract and Vitamin D precursors present in the oleostearins from hops.
The organic lemon-thyme extract reinforces the connections between elastic fibre and collagen fibre by encouraging the expression of Emilin-1 at the level of elastic fibres. Clarins was the first to realise that a drop in Emilin-1 is associated with ageing. Located at the interface of microfibrils and elastin molecules that form elastic fibres, Emilin-1 is a protein that ensures their healthy organisation and links them to the collagen fibres.
The Extra-Firming Day Wrinkle-lifting cream fights skin slackening, helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles, firms the oval of the face and restores more defined features by acting on the three key elements of dermal structure and, again, the linkage of elastic fibres, collagen fibres and fibroblasts.
The Extra-Firming Night and Extra-Firming Night Rejuvenating cream and the Extra-Firming Day Cream have a velvety smoothness and matte finish. The day cream offers fresh, feminine notes of rose and camelia, while the night cream has the subtle, soothing fragrance of lily of the valley, jasmine and iris. The creams are good for any skin type, but especially good for dry skin.
