The Culture Ministry’s Department of Cultural Promotion had indeed stamped the new film “okay” after its Film and Video Censorship Committee screened it and was not utterly appalled. “The producer of ‘Censor Must Die’ based it on real events,” the film board decided.
“For us this is like winning the lottery,” Manit crowed, thanking the censors for being broadminded (an attribute not often ascribed to them). “I hope this precedent-setting decision will help bring about a more optimistic future for Thai cinema.”
Still no life onscreen for Shakespeare, however, unless Manit can convince the Administrative Court that the Film Board erred in judgement. Just what are the odds of hitting the jackpot twice?
Magnum homeless
Magnum Cafe must also die! The “pop-up” ice-cream shop at the Siam Center was supposed to close in May but managed to extend its lease. That expires tomorrow, however, so it’s back to 7-Eleven for all your Magnum needs (and good luck finding one with the chocolate coating not all cracked to pieces).
The cafe is going out with a bang, bringing in its sweet-toothed ambassador, Ananda Everingham, to console the regular customers. The shop’s unique furniture will be auctioned off between 4 and 5pm (register by 3.30) and the lesser decor in three bidding rounds at noon, 1 and 2pm.
And every hour they’ll serve up 30 “My Magnum” dishes for free – those elaborate ice-cream inventions with a Magnum bar in the middle.
The final word, honest
Janie Thienphosuvan is safely wedded away and Nana Rybena Intachai insists that she and Janie’s other pals in the “Angel Gang” are still firmly on her side. And yet some people refused to believe there hadn’t been a rift in the ranks.
So another friend, VJ-model Virithipa “Woonsen” Yamnarm, has decided to come forward at last and add her affirmation to complete the show of support: everyone’s happy for Janie and her new husband, Chonsawat “Ae” Asavahame.
“I was shocked because I only learned about it two days before their press conference – but, yes, we feel happy for her,” Woonsen said. She would have been at Janie and Ae’s press gig but she didn’t get out of bed until 11am (VJ hours). “There were so many missed calls and photos sent to my Whatsapp! I saw the marriage certificate and I was really surprised!” Her first question to Janie, she admits, was, “Are you pregnant?”
“I needed to ask because I knew the reporters would pester me about it. And she said she’s not pregnant.” Okay, Woonsen, but why did you delete several of the congratulatory photos you posted? “Well, Cris [Horwang] and I removed our photos because there were so many unkind comments. We just don’t want people having a spitting war on our spaces.”
