Thai Airways' service is not what it was

Tourism is up 20 per cent yet Thai Airways have made a loss (The Nation, August 15).

Why? Here are some clues from a former gold card business-class passenger who now avoids TG whenever possible.
Why can’t the staff in the Thai domestic lounge be bothered to announce flight departures when others (e.g. Bangkok Airways) can?
Why is there no beer available on domestic business-class flights when even budget carriers provide beer in economy class?
Why is there a seat-back TV screen switched on and inviting you to enjoy the entertainment yet the cabin crew refuse to issue headphones?
Why does one have to sit and wait with a queuing ticket at the airport ticketing office while a row of attendants sit there attending to their fingernails?
Why does the airline so often fail to stream business-class and economy passengers at the boarding gate?
I could go on. In short, what happened to the famous service that made Thai Airways one of the best in the region in the 1980s? Thai’s in-flight service in particular has deteriorated from excellent to poor and is at times downright rude. A contemptuous rictus does not constitute a smile.
Wake up, Thai Airways, you’ve lost the plot.
