Sorry I forgot your big day, mum

No worries: Spa Cenvaree will reassure her that you're the best kid ever

MOTHER’S DAY was two weeks ago. If this comes as a bit of a shock to you, and somewhere your mum is fuming that you never even called, there’s an excellent way to make it up to her.
If you completely forgot the big day, Spa Cenvaree at Centara Grand at Central World is continuing to give mothers a jolly good pampering through next Saturday – and you can join in for the same affordable price.
You get two and a quarter hours of relaxing fun in a room of your own with two beds.
It starts with a lovely warm-water foot massage. Then you roll over onto your tummy for a vigorous body scrub.
The spa has already selected a scrub tonic for you based on your needs, so there are no more decisions to make. The all-natural massage oil includes oat milk, sesame oil, bergamot and more, combined to remove dead skin cells and improve your blood circulation. Once your back is thoroughly pummelled, you flip again for the frontal assault.
You clean off the residue in a separate room and are now ready for a soothing aromatherapy massage, surely the highlight for both mother and child because it relieves every muscle ache and leaves you feeling great. The treatment isn’t as forceful as a traditional Thai massage.
The Spa Cenvaree essential oil is quite nice – none of the usual greasy feeling and it’s absorbed quickly into the skin. You really don’t even need to shower afterward. Designed to offset ageing and reduce cellulite, it contains extracts of evening primrose, rose hips, wheat germ, geraniums, black pepper, fennel and “petit grain”.
Then the therapist massages your face, again to boost circulation and lymph flow. A facemask of 100-per-cent-natural ingredients is applied to rejuvenate the skin.
Finally there’s the signature organic facial, a last workout for the head, neck and shoulders while you’re sitting up on the bed.
Chances are you’ll feel so relaxed that you’ll need help holding the cups of detoxifying herbal tea and home-made sorbet proffered in the lobby.
If you and Mum have further plans for the day, take along your makeup and other such necessities. The spa has mouthwash and skin lotion, but not the sunscreen you’ll need if it’s still daytime. Really, the best time for the treatment is late afternoon on a free day, so that afterward you can return home with your “bare” face and simply flop around the house.
Advance reservations are recommended, even though the flagship branch of Spa Cenvaree has 14 treatment rooms. As is the case with many spas at hotels, the late afternoons and evenings are busy.
But, once inside and away from bustling Ratchaprasong, the spa is an ideal escape at those hours. You can wait out the traffic mayhem in style, and after a treatment enjoy juice and a snack in the lounge, soak in a Jacuzzi or take a sauna.
And don’t forget – you have to keep you mum entertained too!
