Reaching the parts others can't

Re: "Sex and the single man", Features, August 29.

So the result of China’s charming custom of aborting female babies has led to a shortage of females that is forcing Chinese men to take solace in plastic blow-up dolls. Well, serves them right. I hope they enjoy their plastic pleasures.
In the interest of gender equality, though, I wonder if they have thought of producing male blow-up dolls for the thousands of love-starved women in the West who can’t find men worthy of them. I can envision a lucrative market, not only among women, but also among gays. A male blow-up doll won’t give you unmentionable diseases, come home stinking drunk at four o’clock in the morning, fall asleep in the middle of sex, be stingy with the money, make you bring him a beer whenever he feels like one, treat you like a house slave, or complain when your mother comes to visit. My only concern is that they’ll have to calibrate the texture of the plastic parts in certain areas. Some parts will have to be hard, but not too hard. There will also have to be a choice of sizes. I’m sure that the Chinese will be able to solve this problem, and I look forward to seeing the first plastic male blow-up dolls in Thailand. Especially the Brad Pitt model and the Tom Cruise model. Just to look at, of course.
