If Thailand lowers duties on luxury items, it might affect the country in both positive and negative ways. Although this might encourage more tourists and Thais to buy luxury products at cheaper prices, it will affect Thai brands as well.
How can we make sure that the money the government invests in order to cut the import duty will return to the country and encourage more employment and tourism?
Before becoming a duty-free country, we should survey purchasing power and the demands of people both inside and outside the country.
The most important thing is to support Thai brands instead of lowering prices for foreign brand-name goods, since Thai entrepreneurs won’t benefit if their products are neglected. Are we really ready to become a duty-free country?
