“Sad I couldn’t have the perfect weekend, but it was a very well earned win by @Edjonesracing. Monza next and the title fight continues! Stuvik tweeted after the weekend’s two races. The first saw the Thai RP Motorsport driver start from pole and survive a slippery first lap in light rain before losing the lead to his championship rival Ed Jones of the UAE.
Stuvik quickly regained the lead on the next lap after slipstreaming Jones along Kemmel straight. The two championship contenders then swapped position several times, but it was the Thai driver who eventually managed to open up a small lead on the Emirate driver and claim the race win.
Stuvik took to the podium with the Thai national anthem playing over the Belgian circuit, before again strategising with his Italian racing squad for Sunday’s second race.
The Thai again showed his mastery in wet conditions, dominating pole position in qualification, before coming off the track and hitting the wall hard at Les Combes. The RP Motorsport mechanics then did an amazing job repairing the Thai driver’s severely damaged car in time for the second race start.
With the circuit dried up, Stuvik had a good getaway as the lights turned green, but lost the lead along the long Kemmel straight and again traded places several times with Jones. The race was then halted due to a huge accident that saw 10 cars in the back of the field eliminated. After the safety-car restart, Stuvik held his position, but couldn’t get close enough for another attack on Jones and eventually took the chequered flag in second position.
The weekend’s results leave Stuvik still in the lead of the championship by 202 points as the teams start preparing for next month’s race at Italy’s famous Monza Circuit.
