A death sentence for real justice

While it's tempting to say that the four men convicted of rape and murder in India should be hanged, I would prefer they be given life in prison without parole.

Suppose the man who keeps shouting “I am innocent” is telling the truth.
The men were identified by the woman’s boyfriend, also seriously injured in the attack. Isn’t it possible he could have been in a state of shock and disoriented and thus made a mistake?
Perhaps one of the men found guilty was present but didn’t participate in the crime. I would rather see a hundred rapist-murderers spend the rest of their lives in prison than see one innocent man hang.
