Education spending has been wasted

Re: 'Low ranking for quality despite high spending', National, September 5, 2013.

The Yingluck Shinawatra government must do something to improve the country’s education after Thailand received a poor ranking in the World Economic Forum’s most recent report.
Thailand is now ranked eighth in terms of education in the 10-member Asean group – even lower than Vietnam and Cambodia.
Our country has spent more money in education per student than many others, but is at the bottom in terms of academic quality. Here in Thailand, it appears only children of the wealthy and well-heeled can get good education. They don’t care for the rest of us. It has been like this for 40 years!
