Blurred lines in the telecom sector

State-owned CAT and privately owned True seem to be so entangled with each other that they don't know which of them owns a lot of mobile-telephone towers.

Could that have been influenced by their “not after the democracy books” 3G deal – a deal without auction or competition?  The NTBC has cleared it, as it did with the last auction, and lately also repealed the expiring concession for True and prolonged it for one year more. Strange things happen in the telecom sector if you look from an honest, democratic perspective.

The telecom sector is interesting because money generated in different ways over time is what keeps Thailand in stalemate, defining the political situation in the Kingdom today.
