Definitely other sports associations in Thailand should search their souls, especially the Badminton Association. Why so much infighting and bad press there, compared to the harmonious and successful Volleyball Association?
Your excellent editorial gave credit to the fantastic teamwork of the volleyball players, on court and off. I would add that they are humble, including chief coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai. This attitude flows through all the players and personnel. Also, strict discipline in training seems to be the norm. In an interesting series about the family lives of the key players (on Thai PBS, the final part due tomorrow at 8.20pm) Amporn Hyapha’s mother laments how she misses Amporn, who left their Nakhon Sawan home for training at the age of 13. The management has been far-sighted in encouraging players to go abroad for experience and in successfully scouting for new blood for the future.
The victory is sweet and the example is not only good for other sports, but also the two major political parties on how they should conduct themselves for the good of the country.
