I’ve been in the construction industry all my working life and know that, if the concrete in these existing structures met proper stress and hardness criteria when they were erected, their integrity needn’t be questioned now. There is no doubt that, with a little planning and engineering, they could be incorporated into the new transit scheme.
All that is needed is for the engineers, planners and architects to stop and think before replacing the structures and consider the savings in time and cost.
If this isn’t done, it will show that this government thinks there is a bottomless pit of money at its disposal, to dip into with little or no regard for the citizenry who pay the bills for all its excesses and ill-conceived schemes.
