Thaksin Shinawatra, in his attempt to pass through Parliament an amnesty bill - to whitewash the instigators of political violence in 2010, including himself - has proved he is no better than the military leaders who staged a coup against him in 2006.
This bill will also cancel out the pending corruption cases against him that were committed prior to 2006. Worse still, it will pave the way for Thaksin to regain the Bt46 billion confiscated from him earlier, in a corruption-related proceeding – the source of which money he failed to clarify to the court.
Hence, with this amnesty bill, Thaksin is not only getting even for the coup, he is also taking profit plus interest from it as well. How smart he is.
