Your editorial aptly sums up the reality of political power in Thailand today: Facebook rules the waves. Government spokesmen have been telling us for years that another anti-Thaksin coup is impossible because people using the instantaneous social media for communication and strategy would stoutly resist it. Now we see that same government potentially thwarted by Facebook, which has the power to rally thousands without the need for TV, newspapers or telephone calls. There is an enormous message here for an elected dictatorship relying on parliamentary vote-ramming to impose its will: political power isn’t just about Government House any more.
