Christmas goes to the dogs

Greyhound and Another Hound cafes serve up festive treats for hungry shoppers

THE CASUALLY elegant Greyhound Cafe and its sister restaurant Another Hound are once again welcoming the festive season with special menus of interesting main dishes, desserts and drinks guaranteed to put shoppers and revellers in the mood for fun. This year too they’re turning cool into chill by transforming the usual black interiors into sparkling caves complete with icy stalactites.
The festive menus offered by the two eateries untill December 30 are not identical though, so revellers should be sure to check out both.
Another Hound Cafe on the first floor of Siam Paragon has eight special dishes perfect for sharing and will be changing its menu to make sure no one gets bored.
This month’s menu features Ceviche (Bt250), the flagship dish of Central and South America’s coastal cuisine but adapted to local tastes with a flavourful Thai touch. A spicy dish, Ceviche generally consists of bite-size pieces of white fish marinated raw in lime but Greyhound’s executive chef Torsit Sarisdiwongse instead offers crab claws and shrimps marinated with fish sauce and dressed with avocado, frisee and rocket salad, and finished with chilli and lime sauce.
The hearty Mixed Grill (Bt250) is a barbecue platter filled with skewers of tender, honey-marinated chicken chunk, salmon belly seasoned with turmeric and white sesame, and smoked champion mushrooms with black pepper.
Torsit’s Miang Kum (Bt250) takes a step away from familiar territory replacing the savoury bite-size snack of finely chopped crispy coconut, cubed lemon, shallot, ginger, dried shrimp wrapped in cha plu leaves with bite-size royal lotus petals filled with poached shrimp, pomelo, shallot, chilli and roasted peanut and dressed with tamarind dressing.
His Octopus Arms Croquette (Bt220) combine the chewy tentacles with potato, broccoli, mozzarella and parmesan and saffron aioli and it’s a perfect match with a Glitterita (Bt250), a power-packing cocktail of muddled pomelo and tequila mixed with lime juice and light beer.
Come December 1, diners can enjoy Midnight Turkey (Bt850), a leg confit seasoned with herbs and cooked in its own rendered fat before a final deep-fry. It is served with roasted root veggies and both red wine and tamarind sauces.
Spaghetti Beef Cheek (Bt520) is slow-cooked with red wine and served with red onions, baby carrot and cherry tomato while the Crab Cake Salad (Bt290) features crabmeat, avocado and croutons topped with Thai-style spicy dressing.
Lamb and turkey are the main festive ingredients over at Greyhound Cafe, which boasts Turkey Greyhound Style, Turkey Pita Pizza, Crispy Braised Dark Meat Turkey, Lamb Shank Massaman and Mash, and Spaghetti Lamb Shank Massaman.
Both restaurants offer the traditional Thai dessert Lod Chong Panna Cotta, topping the green noodles in coconut milk with coconut cream and shaved ice on the side.
