Luksika bombed out by Belgian

Luksika Kumkhum's hopes of a trophy in Taiwan came crashing down yesterday as she was overpowered in the semi-finals of the US$125,000 OEC Taipei Ladies Open by second seed Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium.

The Thai No 1 was no match for the hard-hitting former world No 12, who needed just 64 minutes to clinch a 6-3 6-1 victory. Currently ranked 59, Wickmayer will play fellow Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck, who ousted Dinah Pfizenmaier of Germany 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 in the other semi-final.
Elsewhere, in Phuket, Nicha Lertpitaksinchai wasted two set points at 6-4 in the second-set tie-breaker yesterday before losing to China’s Zhang Ling 6-2 7-6 (9-7) in the final of the US$15,000 Chang ITF Pro Circuit.
