YOU SHOULD BE just about finished trying out all of “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants” for 2013. Come February 24 you can get started on the 2014 list.
That’s when S Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, with the help of William Reed Business Media, follow up on their success of their inaugural event with a fresh round of awards at Capella Singapore, with many of the region’s best chefs and influential restaurateurs in attendance.
There’ll also be workshops and a forum featuring 2013 winners Joan Roca of El Celler de Can Roca in Spain (who was No 1 on the 2013 world list), Yoshihiro Narisawa of Narisawa in Japan (world No 20) and David Thompson of Nahm in Bangkok (world No 32). They’ll discuss “The Future of Food: Back to Our Roots”.
Chefs from “the World’s 50 Best Restaurants” will join those from Asia’s 50 best to exchange ideas and discuss issues.
“We’re very much looking forward to the 2014 event and the expanded programme around it,” says William Drew, editor of Reed Business Media’s Restaurant magazine.
“Asia’s 50 Best list has already become a key reference for lovers of gastronomy, whether they reside in or regularly travel to the region. Restaurants in Asia have become a genuine force to be reckoned with on a global level.”
The Asia list is compiled by the 900 expert members of the Diners Club World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy.
The academy maintains 26 chapters around the world, each with a panel of 36 members – food critics, chefs, restaurateurs and highly regarded “foodies”. And they each have seven votes on which restaurants are best, of which at least three must be outside their own region.
The award categories include the S Pellegrino Best Restaurant in Asia, Lifetime Achievement, Chefs’ Choice, Best Pastry Chef, Highest New Entry and One to Watch.
The Singapore gathering will have representatives from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Brunei, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Maldives, Micronesia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Timor-Leste and Vietnam, as well as Thailand.
Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants of 2014 will be announced at the conclusion of the awards ceremony on February 24.
