Why didn’t he do anything about the “Thaksin regime” when the Democrat Party was in power? He had all the tools he needed: a majority in Parliament to amend the Constitution and set up a “people’s parliament”, or whatever. And he had the authority to acquire Thaksin’s extradition or abduction. He could have rounded up the Shinawatras and deported them to Montenegro. But the Democrat government did nothing.
Instead, the Democrats proposed selling eggs by weight, building police stations (that never materialised), hoarding palm oil (which caused riots in supermarkets) and mass singing of the national anthem every evening. That’s all I can think of. All good stuff.
Anyway, if Suthep succeeds in what he is trying to do, he will be called “the father of modern Thailand” and be placed in the same rank as Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew.
