WHILE THOUGHTS linger on Father Day’s just passed, you might consider treating your beloved dad to a face full of beer this month. We don’t mean getting him drunk (although that’s not a bad idea, either). Instead, the Devarana Spa at the Dusit Thai Bangkok will give him an Aromatic Belgian Beer Fitness Facial. You’ll end up with a younger old man.
As any beer-hound will tell you, beer has multiple health benefits. The yeast that makes all the suds is rich in Vitamin B, which is great for smoothing and nurturing the skin. The yeast will cleanse, brighten and gently exfoliate, leaving the complexion soft, supple and rejuvenated.
And the yeast in Premium Belgian ale will also give the skin more elasticity – and prevent acne by slowing down sebum production and killing bacteria. Not that your dad is likely to have an acne problem at his advanced age, but you never know.
Belgian ale is brewed from malted barley, using a top-fermenting method in warm temperature. The result is a beer with fruity and herbal scents.
The Aromatic Belgian Beer Fitness Facial takes 90 minutes, beginning with an aromatic back massage to ease stress and increase blood circulation. Then there’s a gentle cleansing and face scrub to purify and remove the rough outer layer of skin. Next, a compress of aromatic tea and a face massage coax out the last of the tension and firm up the skin.
Now they roll out a keg of Belgian beer. Actually, it’s in a warm egg-white mask that tones and hydrates the complexion. It’s not at all as icky as it might sound and, rather than the funk of yeast, the scent is fruity and delightful. All the goodness is sealed into the skin with an eye cream and moisturiser.
It’s very relaxing and you can see the results almost immediately. The treatment costs Bt3,400.
For another Bt2,200 you can get Father Dear into the Father Christmas spirit with a 60-minute Elf Relaxing Massage. This is apparently the same massage they give to the elves that toil so hard in Santa’s workshop, soothing their aching neck, shoulders and back muscles.
“But I’m not an elf,” you dad is sure to protest. Ignore him and get him stretched out again so the therapist can place slices of steamed ginger on his back. Their heat softens up the muscles and the tangy, peppery aroma will cleanse his air passages so he can breathe better.
The ginger comes off and then he gets a gentle kneading with an equally aromatic warm compress of vanilla. This will get Dad nice and relaxed, both physically and emotionally. Finally a series of soothing hand movements urges away the last of the tension.
You’re all done, but don’t be surprised if the old boy has a sudden craving for ginger cookies.
