A cup of tea for Santa

YOU KNOW what ought to be a Christmas tradition? A 300-year-old cup of tea. The venerable British firm Twinings has something special for connoisseurs of English tea this festive season at its Tea Boutique at Central World. The relaxing setting – where they also serve great baked goods made with tealeaves for Bt180 as well as fruit juices and chocolate – is the perfect spot for a Christmas cuppa.

You can tuck into Christmas Velvet Cake, cheerfully red and flavoured with sweet lemon jam and black tea that has the aroma of vanilla. A chocolate Santa Claus perches on top. 

The Christmas Linzer Tart, topped with almonds, raspberries and raspberry jam, has “Christmas tea” as the main ingredient, which is rich and malty Assam tea mixed bearing the light scent of cinnamon and cloves. 

The Christmas Dark & White Mousse is all soft layers of white and dark chocolate seasoned with sweet and savoury berry sauce made from Wild Berry tea. 

Among the Yuletide drinks, Barons Berry is a cool and vivid mix of three charismatic black-tea flavours – Strawberry & Mango, Wild Berry and Four Red Fruits. You have the full flavour of the berries and their fruity scent right to the last drop. 

British Dollis is a musky cold refresher mixed from deep and sharp Ceylon tea and fragrant vanilla tea. 

The amber-hued Mary Elizabeth Grey II is a new and exquisite cold drink made with black Lady Grey and the citrus tang of orange, lemon and bergamot.

There are gift sets as well to sneak under someone’s Christmas tree – the “grand” size for Bt3,500 and small for Bt2,200. They’re packed in sumptuous cases with a velvety exterior in navy blue or olive green. The lid is adorned with a quaintly English motif of flowers, birds and teapots and the Twinings logo in brilliant gold. 

Inside are Signature Earl Grey, Lady Grey, Irish Breakfast, Jasmine Green Tea, Gunpowder Green Tea, Vintage Darjeeling and Ceylon Orange Pekoe.
