Luksika Kumkhum staged the biggest upset in the opening day of the Australian Open after she upset world No 6 Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 6-2 1-6 6-4 in Melbourne on Monday.
The 88 th ranked Luksika benefitted from a string fn unforced errors from the 2011 Wimbledon champion to take the first set before the Czech star found her momentum to take the second and forced the decisive set.
Luksika broke Kvitova in the last game to stun the former world No 2. It was her first win over a top 10 player.
