Worawi team confident

The lawyer for the Football Association of Thailand is confident that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will rule in its favour concerning allegations of wrongdoing in October's FA presidential election.

Virach Chanpanich, who lost out to incumbent soccer chief Worawi Makudi in the controversial poll, took the case to the Switzerland-based court. Narinpong Jinaphak, the FA’s lawyer, yesterday insisted there had been no wrongdoing  during the election. “Worawi claimed a win over Virach in the poll, at which AFC and Fifa representatives were in attendance as observers. The Sports Authority of Thailand has approved the result. We believe we staged the election transparently and fairly, so we have no concerns about the case and we are 100 per cent certain we will win,” said Narinpong.

Narinpong revealed that even if the FA lost the case, it did not necessarily mean the association had to follow the ruling. “If the CAS decides to rule it in favour of Virach … the jurisdiction of the court means we are not bound to follow its ruling,” said Narinpong. The case is due to be heard from March 24-27.
